The National Council on Substance Abuse Prevention First Club – 12-week Parents’ Workshop begins today.
Parents have a choice to be in group 1 which will meet on Mondays, or in group 2 which will meet on Tuesdays. The sessions run from 7:30pm-8:30pm.
The overall goal of this programme is to increase the protective factors of children in 1st – 3rd form in order to prevent or delay the onset of substance use.
Community Progamme Officer Mrs. Makeada Bourns says they are working towards the implementation of a skills-building Parents Programme.
They also want to ensure that parents are kept abreast with challenges which both they and their children may face with regards to the use and abuse of legal and illegal drugs.
The programme is also aimed at increasing parents’ knowledge on social topics, giving them the skills to manage the situation if/when they are exposed to such.
